YEAR OF THE VOLUNTEER

As I reflect on the composition of the Induction Class of 2025, one word identifies and labels this group of outstanding alumni and staff, VOLUNTEERISM. Since Patchogue-Medford is known for how these communities are synonymous with volunteerism, it is fitting that the next class of Inductees also be linked to serving. This group has done so and gone beyond.

One look at the biographies of this impressive group of inductees, and we can see the positive impact the Class of 2025 has had, here at home, and globally. Whether looking at
the service of Navy SEAL John Hawley, to a grateful nation, or to state/local service by Robert Waldbauer, Cheryl Felice or Joseph DeStefano (on two fronts), as well as what our athletes, Jim Cassel and Bob Figueira provided, while carrying full academic/athletic schedules, is most impressive. And, we cannot forget how Paul Hauser and Mike Cirigliano each, in our schools and in our community, always found time to give back and help others. It would not surprise me one bit if we found out that the 1925 Basketball Team also were community volunteers as well.

So, I am proud and enthused to include the 2025 Induction Class of the Patchogue-Medford Hall of Fame and share their stories with the greater community. Even more so, I am proud to share their stories of volunteerism and service, here at home and around the world. Welcome Class of 2025, to the Hall of Fame, and, “WELCOME HOME!”
