Rob Miller, a graduate of the Patchogue-Medford High School Class of 1990, embodies the success achievable through passion, focus, and a relentless commitment to community. His career in media, spanning nearly four decades with the leading national audio company iHeartMedia, showcases his transformation from a local DJ with a dream into one of the country’s most influential radio programming executives and a dedicated philanthropic leader.

Rob’s passion for broadcasting started locally. Attending River Elementary and Saxton Middle School he became obsessed with popular music, leading him as an eight-grader to launch his own mobile DJ business, spinning tracks for school dances, parties, and local events. His lifelong professional journey began while he was still a senior at PMHS, thanks to his guidance counselor, Dr. Mario Shortino, who arranged an internship for him at Patchogue radio station WALK-FM. After earning his Bachelor of Business Administration from Dowling College in 1994, Rob quickly transitioned from radio station intern to on-air personality, becoming a recognizable voice across Long Island.

His talent and focus led to a steady ascent within WALK’s parent company iHeartMedia (then Clear Channel). After becoming WALK’s head of programming in 2001, Rob was promoted in 2006 to program director of the legendary 103.5 KTU in New York City. During his 12-year tenure, he revitalized the brand, transforming it into one of the most listened-to radio stations in America, boasting 4.5 million listeners. His influence continued to grow when he became an iHeartMedia format captain in 2012, overseeing programming strategy for all the company’s Adult Top-40 stations nationwide. In 2019, he took on the additional role of Senior Vice President of Programming for seven major radio stations in the competitive Miami market, where the iHeartMedia Miami cluster has since earned a record eight Marconi nominations—the highest honor for radio excellence.

Beyond the airwaves, Rob’s dedication to community service is a hallmark of his career. While at WALK, he spearheaded the “Yesterday and Today” CD compilation, which raised over $250,000 for local breast cancer coalitions, and the “Holiday Hits” compilations, which benefitted the WALK Kids Campaign supporting charities like Make-A-Wish. Following the tragic events of September 11, 2001 he helped organize a three-day Radiothon with the American Red Cross that generated nearly a half-million dollars for victims’ families. His charitable work continued in New York City, where he launched KTU’s annual “Stuff A Truck” food drive, which has provided millions of meals to those in need. In Miami, he organized the iHeart Bahamas Relief Effort after Hurricane Dorian and established the iHeart4Kids Radiothon, which has raised more than $300,000 for Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.

Rob remains dedicated to mentoring the next generation of media professionals, serving on the Suffolk Community College Radio & Television Advisory Board and actively networking with students at the Hofstra School of Communication, several of whom have become successful contributors to the industry. Rob is blessed to share this adventure with his wife Jennifer (whom he met at WALK) and their three children, Dylan, Brandon, and Jenna.
