Jeff Schaefer
A graduate of the Class of 1978, Jeff Schaefer was one of the greatest baseball players in the history of Patchogue-Medford High School.
A hitting and fielding standout for the Raiders, Jeff earned All-League and All- County honors, and also played on the first team from the eastern United States to win the Connie Mack League World Series. Jeff went on to star at the University of Maryland, and then spent 14 years as a professional – including most of five seasons in the major leagues with the Baltimore Orioles, California Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago White Sox, Seattle Mariners and Oakland A’s. During his career Jeff had the fortune to team up with such greats as Cariton Fisk, Randy Johnson, Omar Vizquel, Edgar Martinez, Ken Griffey Jr. and Mark McGwire, and play under World Series winning managers Joe Madden, Tony LaRussa and Charlie Manuel.
When Jeff’s playing days were over, he put his vast experience to work in helping to develop young players and help them gain the exposure and skills necessary to succeed in receiving college scholarships and opportunities to play professional baseball. Jeff founded the Carolinas Baseball Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, cultivating a national network of college recruiters and major league scouts. Through opportunities and exposure facilitated by Jeff, more than 200 players have gotten the opportunity to play at the collegiate and professional levels. At the same time Jeff has earned a widely regarded reputation as an authority on travel and showcase baseball, and has become known as a leading national source for player evaluation and promotion. Jeff is also an owner of the Virginia Sports Complex, a vast property consisting of eight baseball and softball fields as well as a 40,000-square foot field house.
